INTELLECTUAL: Become a life-long learning- continue to develop ideas. 

  • Academic Advising- Students are eventually assigned a faculty member from their major department to serve as their advisor, but for their first year all students will have an advisor from the Academic Success Center. Student meet with his/her academic advisor during the regularly scheduled advising period each semester to review academic progress and select courses for the coming semester. 

  • Academic Support Services- These services include the Academic Success Center, Tutoring Services, and the Math and Writing Center.

  • Continuing Education- With evening courses, part-time schedules, online options, semester, winter, and summer sessions, and more, Worcester State can help you pursue your goals while balancing the demands of work and family.

  • Information Technology- IT touches every facet of life at Worcester State—spanning computer network, Internet access, email and phone communications, classroom instruction, hardware and software, collaborative learning, security, strategic planning, and infrastructure. We offer training and support on Blackboard, Microsoft Office, and more. Our goal is to enhance teaching and learning with technology.

  • Study Abroad (Study Away)Whether you are a student or faculty or staff member, you can participate in, help develop, and promote academic and cultural exchange, world travel, and global understanding at Worcester State University. We offer Faculty-Led programs, Exchange and Partner Programs, and are affiliated with 12 other providers to offer unique experiences. 

  • Tutoring Services- The goal of the Academic Success Center's tutoring program is to build your classroom experience and increase your academic success. If you are a student looking for more support in your coursework, you can take advantage of the Academic Success Center’s variety of tutoring services. The center works closely with academic departments to set up group tutoring for specific courses. These groups are led by peer tutors who are recommended by faculty.

EMOTIONAL: Learn from Life's ups and downs, recognize your emotions and learn to respond and grow. 

  • Counseling CenterYour college years can be among the most exciting and gratifying of your life. At times, however, you may feel significant amounts of stress, confusion, and uncertainty. The staff of Worcester State University’s Counseling Center understands the emotional pressure that many of our students experience. Concerns that may lead to counseling include: Adjustment to college life, Diversity and inclusion, Depression and anxiety, Substance abuse, Eating disorders, Gender and sexual I/identity, Personal and family crisis, Relationships, Relational violence, Loss and grief, Academic concerns, Loneliness, Sexual assault and many more. They offer individual counseling, group counseling, support groups and other impactful ways to assit you. 

    • Student Support Network (SSN) - Contact Julie Glovin at jglovin@worcester.edu

    • Screening for Mental Health- Behavioral health – which includes mental health, substance use, and more – is a key part of your overall well-being. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a behavioral health professional. Think of these as a checkup from your neck up. This program is completely anonymous and confidential, and immediately following the brief questionnaire you will see your results, recommendations, and key resources.

  • University PoliceThe Worcester State University Police Department provides a full range of police resources to the university community, including 24-hour patrols, criminal investigations, crime and rape prevention programs, and event security planning.

  • Student Accessibility ServicesWe (SAS) coordinate support services and programs that enable equal access to education and university life for students with disabilities—including temporary or permanent challenges with mental health, chronic health, sensory ability, physical health/mobility, and learning ability. A variety of services acan be offered like; Assistive technology, Disability-related advising, Exam-related accommodations (i.e. additional time on exams; distraction-reduced testing location,) Faculty consultation/training, Housing accommodations, Interpreting accommodations, Note-taking services, One-on-one support from a learning specialist, and Scheduling accessible classrooms.

  • Bike Rental- Reduce your carbon footprint, and rent a bike from Recreation & Wellness. In collaboration with Worcester State University Advancement, and the Binienda Center for Civic Engagement the Wellness Center now offers a bike rental program. Whether it is a casual ride into the City of Worcester, or a quick trip to CVS or the grocery store- we have you covered!

  • Chartwells (Dining on Campus)- The dining experience at Worcester State University extends beyond simply serving you delicious meals. We offer meal plan options designed specifically for Sheehan Hall’s Pulse on Dining concept, in addition, as a resident or commuter student (excluding seniors), you’ll have Dining Dollars automatically placed on your OneCard that you can use at all 8 Chartwells’ campus locations.

  • Shuttle Services- We offer a free shuttle to students taking classes at Worcester State University's Sagamore Studios at the Worcester Center for Crafts during the fall and spring semesters. We have a satellite parking lot at 140 Goddard Memorial Drive, across from the T.J.Maxx distribution center and near the Worcester Airport. Shuttle service is provided to and from this lot 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so that students who park there may have access to their cars. Worcester State students taking classes at Assumption College and Holy Cross through the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts can take a city bus to get to those campuses. WRTA Route #10 supports this consortium transportation arrangement.

  • Sustainability- The Worcester State University campus pride's itself on Sustainability initiatives including LEED Certification, Recycling, Hydration Stations, Solar Energy, Environmental & Social Justice, Electric Vehicles, Preventing Waste, Smart Energy, Rain Water Collection, and Responsible Food Choices. 

  • WSU Teaching Garden (Supported by the Urban Action Institute)- The WSU Teaching Garden is located right across the street from the Ghosh Science and Technology Center at 531 Chandler Street. This is an outdoor classroom that provides many different learning opportunities across all the different disciplines at WSU and within the Worcester community. Community groups like Community Connections and Girls, Inc. run summertime leadership development programs at WSU that include work in the garden. Some of our community partners are Chandler Magnet Elementary School, Bet Shalom, and the Regional Environmental Council. FINANCIAL: Balance and manage what you have, save wisely and spend responsibly. 

  • Financial Aid- Here to assist you and your family with the process and guidelines of financing your education. We will work with you to ensure that you have a clear understanding of your financial aid options while attending WSU. Because financial aid packages vary based on students’ unique circumstances, we will assign a financial aid counselor to work with you throughout your academic years at WSU. An ongoing relationship with your financial aid counselor will help you with any questions and concerns in a comfortable and supportive environment.

  • Scholarships- Through our online application system we automatically match you with all of the available scholarships for which you are qualified based on the answers you provide on the general application and information about you in the University’s student information system, Colleague. Further, the system will recommend additional scholarships you may be eligible for but which might require you to provide some more information. The annual application period is January 15 to April 15, 2021. During this time period students may enter the system, complete and submit their scholarship application. While the application period is open students may edit their application and provide additional information.

  • Career Services- Whether you are an undergraduate student, graduate student, or alum, the Career Services Office at Worcester State University is here to help guide your career exploration. Our team is dedicated to preparing students to meet the needs of today's workplace through assessments, counseling, events, and resources. We also support the recruitment needs of our collaborating employers, community partners, and graduate schools by fostering professional connections with students. Our career counseling helps guide you during this important period of career exploration and development. Here are a few of the ways we can help: Facilitate lifelong career development and decision making, Assess the connection between WSU majors and careers, Introduce you to LancerLink (our online internship and jobs database), Collaborate with employers and alumni to increase internship and job opportunities, Teach career-related workshops for academic departments and clubs, and Administer career fairs and networking events.

  • Service Learning- Through the Binienda Center for Civic Engagement there are opportunities to get involved throught Woo Serve, Jumpstart, the Clemente Course Family Support Project, WSU Civic Scholars, and other opportunities.   • WSU Graduate School- With over 30 programs, the Graduate School at Worcester State University offers exceptional programs designed to help students achieve their professional goals while balancing the realities of work, life, and finances. Our collaborations with partners in education, health care, business, and the government and nonprofit sectors provide competitive advantages for our students, who have ready access to internships, applied research, and other hands-on opportunities within the greater Worcester community.

  • Athletics-The Athletics and Wellness Office is an integral part of Worcester State’s efforts to provide a high quality, affordable education and a caring environment that promotes the total development of our students. The staff provides students with the opportunities to grow and learn through 20 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams, intramurals and wellness programs. Participation in these activities fosters physical, mental and life skills development, while enhancing individual leadership, self-discipline and sportsmanship qualities.

  • Health Insurance Information for Students- To comply with State law, all students taking at least ¾ of a full-time course load MUST either waive out of or enroll in the Worcester State University Student Health Insurance Plan online by either waiving the insurance or enrolling. 

  • Health Services- Your source for high-quality, cost-effective health care. We provide accessible, convenient, and affordable services—we don’t bill you or charge any co-pays. Our services include: Unlimited visits for evaluation and treatment of health concerns and illnesses, Health maintenance and wellness information, Women’s health (including routine gynecologic exams with Pap testing, and contraception), Screening for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy issues, Tuberculosis screening in select situations, and Physical exams in select situations. 

  • Recreation & Wellness- Our goal is to educate the diverse campus community through movement, social and educational opportunities with a variety of inclusive programs that focus on a holistic approach to personal well-being. Our Recreation & Wellness program will provide programs and services to help you achieve your health and fitness goals including a variety of group exercise classes each week, 1-on-1 personal training, intramural sports/leagues and tournaments, educational sessions, wellness workshops, golf simulator use, drop-in open recreation play, equipment rental, free consultations and assessments related to the five components of health related fitness, collaborative nutritional programs, virtual/remote engagement and many other special events.

  • Speech-Language-Hearing Center- At the Worcester State University Speech-Language-Hearing Center, we help people of all ages with communication disorders and differences, including difficulties with articulation, fluency, voice, language, and hearing. We serve: People with a variety of diagnoses, including autism, brain injury, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, and stroke Children, teens, and adults who stutter, Individuals with hearing loss, and Non-native English speakers who wish to reduce their foreign accents.

  • Thea's Food Pantry-  Thea’s Pantry provides food and other essentials to students, staff, and faculty in need. Run from the Student Center on campus, the pantry provides a confidential service for those in need. The only requirement for making use of the pantry is possession of a WSU OneCard. The pantry was established to help address the plight of students who experience food insecurity so they can stay focused on their studies and successfully complete their education. The food-pantry effort has involved students from the SNAP practicum, which awards course credit to students who help in the campus SNAP office and other projects; Worcester State Enactus, an entrepreneurial club that’s very involved with community service; and the Urban Studies Club, which works on several anti-hunger and community initiatives. 

  • Spring 2022 hours of operation for Thea’s Pantry. This semester we will be open 5 days a week! The hours are as follows:

    Tuesdays: 3:00PM-7:00PM
    Wednesdays: 3:00PM-7:00PM
    Thursdays: 8:00AM-12:00PM and 3:00PM-7:00PM
    Fridays: 11:00AM-3:00PM

  • Military & Veteran Services-  As a veteran or member of the military, you have provided a very noble and crucial service for all of us, and for that, the Worcester State University community thanks you. Our Military Affairs and Veterans Services Office is committed to helping you meet your educational goals by providing you with information, services, and support. You can rely on our director of Military Affairs and Veterans Services to help you transition to the WSU community, become an active member of our student body, and successfully complete the requirements you need to earn a bachelor’s degree. Our Military Affairs/Veterans Services Student Information Guide also is designed to help you navigate educational services and reporting requirements.

  • Multicultural Affairs- The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) works with students to make a successful transition to college by enhancing their current knowledge and skills. By focusing on the academic, personal, social, and financial adjustment to university we take a comprehensive approach to increasing the effectiveness and retention of first generation, low-income, or Asian, Latino, African, or Native American (ALANA) college students. The OMA creates a welcoming environment that caters to students and their distinct needs.

  • Residence Life- As a resident student at Worcester State University, you are part of a lively and diverse community of approximately 1,600 full-time students who live on campus in our 4 residence halls. You’ll make lifelong friendships and share a college experience that will have a lasting impact on your life. The Residence Life and Housing Office is here to help you get the most out of living on campus. From hosting engaging activities and leadership programs to mentoring our resident assistants to facilitating work orders, our staff aims to ensure you get the most out of your experience as a resident student.

  • Student Affairs- We promote and enrich your education through a seamless learning environment that enhances your classroom experiences. We interact with you in your everyday life through teaching, mentoring, advising, and counseling. We encourage you to come to us for help with any situation or challenge. Whatever the crisis—financial, medical, or personal—we can advise and refer you to the appropriate support services.

  • Community Standards- As a student, we are your resource for information on your rights and responsibilities as a member of our campus community, understanding the balance between individual and community rights, and support of a safe and inclusive atmosphere conducive to your success. Integrity, scholarship, community, creativity, and excellence are the core values that guide our conduct, performance, and decisions. Our Goals are to; Educate students, faculty, and staff on issues related to student conduct, community responsibilities, and behavioral expectations set forth in the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook;  Protect the rights of the students and the WSU community;  Provide a fair and impartial review for students charged with violating WSU policies; Educate students who have violated WSU policy by assigning purposeful sanctions that foster learning, ethical development, and personal integrity; and Encourage respect for members of the WSU community.

  • Student Involvement Leadership Development (OSILD)- A well-rounded college experience offers you the chance to get involved, spread your wings, and gain leadership skills that will help you succeed in the workplace—and the world. You’ll have your pick of exciting opportunities right here. At the heart of student involvement at Worcester State University is the centrally located Student Center, where students gravitate to relax, socialize, study, work, attend meetings and events, and grab a bite to eat. The Student Center is home to a wide range of student services as well as the Information Desk, print center, bookstore, student organizations, the Living Room lounge, and administrative offices, including the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development. Keys aspects include Student Clubs/Organizations, Leadership Programs, Commuter Services, and Orientation Programs.

  • Campus Ministry- Offering you an interfaith experience for personal enrichment. We strive to cultivate the spiritual and psychological development of the university community, and we provide religious services, pastoral counseling, and a variety of spiritually uplifting and enlightening programs. We also sponsor bible study groups, prayer groups, rosary prayer, and events with ministry groups at other area campuses. Located behind Dowden Hall, the Campus Ministry House is a sanctuary for reflection and relaxation. The house is open to all members of the university community, and we encourage you to use our main space for meetings or other scheduled events. We also have informal, quiet places to study, watch television, listen to music, or cook a meal. Whether you seek solitude or connection with other people, you’ll find an atmosphere of peace and comfort at Campus Ministry House.
