WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s senior thrower, Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men’s outdoor field athlete of the week, as announced by the conference Monday (Apr. 17) afternoon.

“Sam had another impressive day on Saturday, much like he has had all year,” commented head coach Al Halper.

Weeks led his team to a first place finish this past weekend at the Eric Loeschner Invitational, as he finished first in the discus with a personal record (PR) of 50.51m. He also won the shot put (16.04m) and was second in the hammer throw (53.12) to register another PR.

“He is inching closer to two long standing school records (discus and hammer) every week,” said Halper. “With a few weeks left this season, hopefully he will be successful in accomplishing the goal.”

With this week’s results, Weeks stands at 7th nationally in the discus, 15th nationally in the shot put, and 29th nationally in the hammer throw.

“It has been a wonderful year watch Sam progress and be among the top competitors nationally in his events,” expressed Halper. “He sheds a bright light on our program and provides a great role model for his teammates.”
