Worcester State Sweeps Up MASCAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Accolades

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s junior forward, Andre Ipojuca (Saugus, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men’s soccer player of the week while Lancer’s freshman midfielder, Mitzschael Myrthil (Clinton, Mass.) has been named the MASCAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

 

Ipojuca’s performance helped the Lancers earn the MASCAC Tournament Championship, as he tallied eight points on three goals and two assists for the Lancers. Ipojuca netted two goals and an assist in the 4-1 semifinal victory over Bridgewater State on Friday, Nov. 4 and a goal and an assist in Worcester State’s 4-2 title game win over Fitchburg State. Ipojuca was also named as the tournament MVP for his performance.

 

“Andre is a big game player,” commented head coach Jason Willis.  “He scored the game winning penalty kick last year in the quarterfinals against MCLA and he has played with a different mentality since.”

 

Ipojuca has a total of 11 points for the season, registering four goals and three assists.

 

“Not only did he score some great goals and provide assists, he defended with everything he had as well,” added coach Willis.

 

Myrthil netted two goals for four points for the Lancers as they claimed the MASCAC Tournament Championship title. Myrthil scored one goal in Worcester State’s 4-1 victory over Bridgewater State in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4 and the game-winning goal in the Lancer’s win over Fitchburg State in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 6.

 

“Mitch is a great kid and easy to coach.  I'm very happy that all of his hard work has paid off. We expect big things from him the next three years.”

 

Myrthil currently has a total of seven points on the season with three goals and one assist in a total of 15 games played.

 
 
The men’s soccer team looks forward to their first appearance in a decade to the NCAA tournament as they take on Daniel Webster on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Amherst College.
