WESTFIELD, Mass. - Four Worcester State University student-athletes have received Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards, brought to you by GEICO. The announcements came from the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Kaitlyn Berkel (Waterford, Conn.) was named the MASCAC Player of the Week after helping the Lancers into the final of the Worcester City Tournament by averaging 12.5 points, 16 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in a 1-1 week. She opened with a 13-point, 22-rebound, three block and two assist performance in a 58-49 win over Clark University on Friday and added another double-double of 12 points and 10 boards while shooting 62.5 percent from the field in the 51-45 setback to WPI on Saturday. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performances.

For the fourth and final time this season, freshman Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) has been named the MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week. Carleton was the top Lancer runner on Saturday as Worcester State competed in the NCAA New England Regional at Bowdoin College. He finished in 68th place out of over 400 runners, completing the 8k in a time of 26:33.5.

Senior Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) was named the MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week for already the second time this season after a one-goal, two-assist week. The Lancers were a perfect 2-0-0 on the week, as Moran opened the week with a one-goal, one-assist performance against Framingham State on Thursday, including the game-winning goal in overtime. He followed up the two-point outing with an assist in Worcester State’s win over Salem State on Saturday.

Senior Mia Rogers (North Dighton, Mass.) rounded out the quartet of Lancer weekly awards this week by garnering her third MASCAC Runner of the Week award of the season. With a 14th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at Bowdoin, Rogers qualified for nationals, where she will race on Saturday in Winneconne, Wis.

Berkel’s Lancer women’s basketball team and Moran’s Lancer ice hockey team will both be back in action on Tuesday night with home games starting at 7 p.m. Women’s basketball plays its home opener against Mount Holyoke, while ice hockey plays Saint Anselm.
