Cross Country, Ice Hockey Pick Up MASCAC Weekly Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - A trio of Worcester State University student-athletes have won weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, brought to you by GEICO. The announcement came from the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Worcester State men's cross country's Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week after he was the top first-year finisher at the MASCAC Championships over the weekend. Fottler led the Lancers with a seventh place finish, lifting his team to a fourth place finish. Fottler was named MASCAC Rookie of the Year for his efforts.

Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.), a junior on the Worcester State women's cross country team, was the MASCAC individual championship over the weekend to earn the Runner of the Week award. Olson was named MASCAC Runner of the Year with the first place finish, and helped the Lancers lift the trophy as MASCAC Champions for the second year in a row.

Senior Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) of the Worcester State men's ice hockey team, is the first MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week of the season, after a huge outing in a 4-3 overtime win over Becker in the season opener. Moran tallied his second goal of the contest 27 seconds into overtime, and also added an assist, as the Lancers improved to 1-0 on the season.

The cross country teams will be back in action on Nov. 10 as they head to Brunswick, Maine for the New England Championships. Moran and the ice hockey team look to stay perfect on the season when they face Plymouth State on Tuesday night.
