King, Guilmette, and Poitras Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Three Worcester State university student-athletes won weekly honors from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. Amari King of the women’s volleyball team and Henri Guilmette of the men’s soccer team took home Player of the Week awards brought to you by GEICO and men’s golfer Jake Poitras won Rookie of the Week.

King won her third Player of the Week selection this season by averaging 12.5 kills, 9.5 digs, and two blocks with a .306 hitting percentage in a 2-0 week for the Lancers. She registered 13 kills, 12 digs, and one block with a .400 hitting percentage in the 3-0 win over MCLA and finished with 12 kills, seven digs, and three solo blocks in the 3-1 win over Slave Regina University.

Guilmette finished with a 0.45 GAA, eight saves, and an .889 save percentage in a 1-0-1 week for the Lancers, including six saves in the 0-0 double overtime draw with Westfield State and added two saves in the 2-1 win over Dean College.

Poitras carded a six-over 77 on Wednesday, leading the Lancers golf team to a fourth-place finish at the eight-team Brett Williamson Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University at Tekoa Country Club. Poitras finished just two strokes off the pace, as the winner of the event shot a 75 before winning in a playoff.

King and the volleyball team have a road game at Becker College next on Thursday, October 4, starting at 7 p.m. Guilmette and the men’s soccer team will face Keene State on the road on Wednesday, October 3, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Poitras and the men’s golf team will play next on Tuesday, October 2 as they host the MASCAC Championships at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton.
