Three Indoor Track & Field Athletes Receive MASCAC Weekly Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Three Worcester State University indoor track & field student-athletes received weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, brought to you by GEICO, on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week, freshman Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) was named the Women's Rookie of the Week, and senior Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Competing at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, Mensah won a pair of events to receive her first MASCAC weekly award of the season. She won the triple jump with a distance of 10.42m, as well as the 60m dash with a time of 8.06.

Molinari finished in second place in the 1000m run on Saturday afternoon at the Wesleyan Invitational with a run of 3:16.95. She also ran the second leg in the 4x800m run, which finished with a time of 10:47.55. It is Molinari's first MASCAC weekly award for indoor track & field. She previously won MASCAC Rookie of the Week for cross country on September 3.

Vieira won both of his throwing events at Saturday’s Wesleyan Invitational. He placed first in the weight throw with a heave of 18.10m (59’4.75”), while he threw 15.32m (50’3.25”) to win the shot put. At the NEICAAA Championships the day before, while competing against athletes primarily from both Divisions I and II, he finished in fourth place in the weight throw with a throw of 17.71m (58’1.25”). It is Vieira's second MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week Award of the season.

The indoor track & field teams will be back in action on Friday at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
