Three Receive MASCAC Weekly Honors in Opening Weekend

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Worcester State University garnered three weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference on the opening weekend of the 2018 season. The announcement came from the conference office early Monday afternoon.

The Lancers swept the MASCAC Cross Country Rookie of the Week Awards, as freshmen Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) won the awards on the men's and women's sides, respectively. Carleton led the Lancers men's team with a seventh place finish at the Jim Sheehan Invitational, crossing the line with a time of 27:16. At the same event on the women's side, Molinari finished in eighth place, third among Lancers, running a 5k time of 20:22.

Worcester State senior Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) rounded out the Lancer MASCAC weekly award winners, as she was named the conference's Women's Volleyball Player of the Week. At the Worcester City Tournament on Saturday, King averaed 7.5 kills, 11 digs, and one service ace per match in two matches played.

King and the women's volleyball team will be back in action Tuesday evening against Rhode Island College, while Carleton, Molinari, and the rest of the men's and women's cross country teams will next hit the course on Saturday for the Worcester City Meet at Moore State Park.
