Mullane, Hopkins, Antonelli Earn Little East Weekly Awards

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Three Worcester State University student-athletes have claimed four Little East Conference weekly awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Senior Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) was named the Little East Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named the Little East Field Hockey Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, and freshman Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) was named the Little East Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Antonelli was named LEC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling two goals and four assists for eight points in a 3-0 week for the Lancers. She scored one goal in a 3-1 conference win over Keene State to start the week before scoring one goal and assisting on two others in a 5-1 win over Anna Maria and capping the week with two more helpers in a 4-1 LEC victory over Eastern Connecticut. Antonelli now has nine goals and five assists for 23 points this season, placing her sixth in the LEC in each category.

Hopkins was named LEC Goalkeeper of the Week and LEC Rookie of the Week for the first time this season after going 3-0 in the cage with a 0.73 goals against average and a .867 save percentage for the Lancers, stopping 13 of the 15 shots on goal she faced over 192:18. She turned away eight shots on goal in a 3-1 conference won over Keene State, had one save an no goals against over 52:18 of a 5-1 non-conference win over Anna Maria and registered four stops in a 4-1 LEC victory over Eastern Connecticut. Hopkins is now 7-5 this season with a 2.27 goals against average and a .690 save percentage.

Mullane was named LEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after going a combined 6-0 at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles in the Lancers three conference matches last week. She was an 8-1 winner in doubles and a 6-2, 6-2 singles winner versus Southern Maine before posting an 8-2 doubles victory and a 6-1, 6-0 singles win in Worcester State's 7-2 triumph over Western Connecticut. Mullane capped the week by taking home an 8-4 doubles win and a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) singles win at Plymouth State.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday with road contests. Mullane's women's tennis team plays at Clark, while Hopkins' and Antonelli's field hockey squad travels to Western Connecticut State.
