WORCESTER, Mass. – Three Worcester State student-athletes have finished in the top-17 (top-15 for heptathlon) of their respective events to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, to be hosted in Birmingham, Alabama this week (Mar. 9-10).

For the women, freshman Asgerdur Jana Agustsdottir (Akureyi, Iceland) qualified in not just one event, but two events in her first track & field season. She is seeded fifth in the pentathlon after competing in the event at the New England Division III women's track & field championships on Feb. 16 and logged a Worcester State school record score of 3,425. Her height in the high jump at the same meet gave her the eighth seed in the event with a top clearing of 1.69, (5' 5"). The pentathlon will be contested throughout the day on Friday, while the high jump is on Saturday at 12 p.m.

On the men's side, Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) and Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) return to nationals after attending in the spring of 2017.

Lewis, the 2017 NCAA DIII men's outdoor high jump National Champion, earned the top qualifying spot in the high jump after clearing the 2.14m (7' 0.25") at the NEICAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 2.

Vieria claimed the fifth seed in the weight throw with a top distance of 19.15m (62'  10") that he hit at the Boston University Last Chance Qualifier on February 25.

Vieira is up first on Friday at 11 a.m. in the weight throw finals, while Lewis will look to win another National Championship in the high jump on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
