Worcester State Places 145 Student-Athletes on Fall 2017 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Fall 2017 MASCAC All-Academic Teams

WORCESTER, Mass. – Out of the eight full-time Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) members, Worcester State University placed the most student-athletes on the Fall 2017 MASCAC All-Academic team with a total of 145 student-athletes.

 

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the Fall 2017 athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Fall All-Academic Team.

 

"Our student-athletes continue to get it done in the classroom," commented Worcester State Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd.  "I am also appreciative of the great job our academic support staff does in helping our student-athletes prosper in the classroom."

 

Behind Worcester State was Westfield State University with 123 student-athletes. Bridgewater State University (89), Massachusetts Maritime Academy (77), Fitchburg State University (73), Framingham State (51), Salem State (50), MLCA (48), Plymouth State (42), UMass Dartmouth (21), Western Connecticut State University (18) followed. Overall, there were a total 737 student-athletes honored with the selection to the leagues' Fall 2017 All-Academic Team from 11 institutions.

 

"The MASCAC had another successful semester as reflected by the large number of student-athletes recognized on the 2017 MASCAC Fall All- Academic Team," MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann said. "Finding success in the classroom is equally as important as success on the field of play which our student-athletes have shown time and time again. I am extremely proud of their academic accomplishments."
