Worcester State Mourns Passing of Oscar Larsson

The Worcester State University Athletic Department is saddened to share the news that long-time athletic trainer and Worcester State Athletics Hall of Famer Oscar Larsson has passed away. He was 100.

Larsson was Worcester State's very first athletic trainer, serving the Lancers from 1973 until his retirement in 1989. During his tenure, he established the College's first weight training facilities. After his retirement, the Worcester State honored him by naming the training facility the Oscar Larsson Fitness Center. He was inducted into the Worcester State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 as a contributor.

In 2017, Larsson was honored with a plaque commemorating his service to Worcester State inside the new DeFeudis Fitness Center in the Wellness Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Memorial calling hours are Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christopher Heights of Webster, Activities Fund, 338 Thompson Rd., Webster, MA 01570.
