Title: Class of 2001

Ronald Elkind '59 was a stellar baseball player for four years at Worcester State College and his leadership qualities were evident as he was selected captain of the 1959 team. He hit .480 in his junior year and ended his career with a .421 career batting average. Additionally, "Ron was a beautiful fielder. He made the rest of the infield look good," comments Ron's former Worcester State College baseball coach and professor John Mockler.

Ron also took to the mound and compiled a career 5-1 pitching record, including a 4-0 record in 1958. He was the president of the Worcester State College Athletic Association for one year.

He played professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers Minor League System for one year and following his graduation played baseball in the prestigious Blackstone Valley League.

Ron was the baseball coach at West Boylston High School from 1962 through 1965. He is a professor emeritus at Assumption College.
