Greg Wood was an outstanding running back for the Worcester State College football team who broke virtually all of Worcester State College's rushing records in just three years.  On the gridiron, Wood was named a third team preseason All-American by Football Gazette in 2002 and he finished his career holding Lancer football records for scoring, career rushing yardage and career all-purpose yardage. 

As a junior Wood had his best season as he rushed for 1,189 yards for a 7.4 yards per carry average.  He averaged 108.1 yards per game and scored 22 rushing touchdowns.  He also caught 12 passes for 349 yards and scored four receiving touchdowns.  He also scored 164 points that season. That year his 14.4 points per game ranked him fourth in the NCAA Division III and his all-purpose yard average of 192.6 was sixth.

His senior season, despite losing two games to injury, the standout rushed for 914 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.  His 11.3 points per game ranked him ninth nationally as a senior.  He also ranked 23rd in the nation in all-purpose yardage per game averaging 162.3 yards.  He was a New England Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week once and was he was named to the ECAC Honor Roll as well.  For his efforts that season, Wood was named to the second team All-NEFC for both the running back and kick return specialist positions.

Off the field, Wood graduated with a 3.45 GPA in Health Sciences, was selected to the District I College Division Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  He also won the Division II/III 59th Annual Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Award awarded by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.  The Nelson honor is given to a student-athlete for outstanding academic and athletic achievement.  Previous student-athletes who have won the Swede Nelson Award are Doak Walker, Gordie Lockbaum and Jay Fiedler.  The Bellingham native was also a Dean's list student and he was on the student-athlete honor roll several times.

Wood finished his three-year career with 3,002 rushing yards(96.8 yards per game), 55 touchdowns, 47 rushing, (10.8  points per game), 544 yards receiving, and 5,005 all-purpose yards(161.5 yards per game) and 336 total points (10.8 points per game).
