DUDLEY, Mass.(Sept. 10) – The Nichols College golf team defeated Worcester State in the first match of the season for both squads, 307-330, Thursday at Dudley Hill Golf Course. The Lancers' Bob Bruso was the top individual finisher with a one-under 71, while the Bison's Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) shot a personal-best 72 to place second in the 'B' Match.
Nichols first year player Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) was impressive in his collegiate debut, firing a two-over 74 to finish second for the Bison, while classmate Joe Gallagher (Hopewell Jct., N.Y.) shot an 80. Jon-Paul Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) followed one stroke behind, and Sam Scott (Aquinnah, Mass.) finished with an 82 in his collegiate debut.
Chris Ellis fired an 82 and Mike Leveroni was five strokes behind with an 87. Patrick Lynch shot a 90, and Mike Horan rounded out the effort with a 94.
Nichols travels to the Trinity Invitational this weekend, starting Saturday morning. Worcester State is at Elms on Tuesday, September 15.
