On Thursday (Oct. 21) the Worcester State University baseball team volunteered with Veterans Inc. to assist with setup for the Gala Military Ball to be held on Saturday (Oct. 22) night at the Historic Armory.

“It was great to help out a military event that benefits local veterans who have sacrificed so much for this country,” commented head coach Dirk Baker.

This event is a fundraiser for local military veterans, and the team was asked by Worcester State Military Affairs Director, Alan Jackson, to assist with the setup.

Later in the afternoon the entire team winterized the Lyons Diamond at Rockwood Park. This included trash and debris pick-up, weeding, raking, and basic prep of the field for next spring.

In 2014 Lyons Field was named by the American Baseball Coaches Association as the best maintained collegiate field in the nation. This year, improvements to the field include a new left field fence and sound system supported by the team’s fundraising efforts and donations.
