Worcester State Athletic Department to Celebrate Division III Week (Apr. 3-11)

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University Athletic Department will join other institutions around the country in celebrating Division III Week, promoting the positive impact of student-athletes around campus and the surrounding community.

Approximately one out of every 10 undergraduates at Worcester State is a student-athlete, all competing in the sports they love while balancing busy academic schedules, jobs and other commitments throughout the year.

Many student-athletes excel in the classroom, demonstrate outstanding leadership and are engaged in community service activities. Worcester State will join nearly 450 schools and conferences in celebrating these great accomplishments.

The week will kick off on Monday, April 3 with a Worcester State Career Night for graduating student-athletes inside the Wellness Center from 5:30-7pm. Baystate Financial will put on a presentation so that seniors can have the opportunity to learn more about pursuing a career in the financial industry. If interested, one can RSVP to Kelly Downs at kdowns@worcester.edu.

On #WooPride Wednesday, April 5 the student-athletes will take part in the university’s “Day of Giving” initiative to raise money for scholarships, research, the Wellness Center, and other Worcester State University priorities. The student-athletes, past and present, raise money as part of the initiative. Later that day, the softball team hosts a doubleheader at Rockwood Park against MIT, starting at 4 p.m.

Thursday, April 6 opens with an Academic Achievement Open House from 7:30-8:30am inside the Wellness Center where student-athletes get recognition for the academic achievements, community service, and athletic accomplishments. Each student-athlete will have the opportunity to invite a faculty member to attend the event which will be held in room 204. A continental breakfast will be served. Later that day, baseball take the diamond at 3pm for a single game against UMass Boston, while lacrosse hosts RIC in a 7 p.m. “One Love” and “Lifetime Lancer” game.

Moving forward to Saturday, April 8, the university hosts Congratulations Day where accepted students get to experience the Worcester State campus, meet other students and faculty, and explore the opportunities available at Lancer Nation. The weekend events wrap up on Sunday, April 9 when baseball hosts Clark in a single game at 1pm at the Lyons Diamond.

The Division III week celebration concludes on Tuesday, April 11 with the Rich Korzec Golf Invitational at Blackstone National in Sutton, Mass. Baseball and softball will also be home later that afternoon as they take on cross-town opponents Assumption and WPI at 3:30pm and 4pm, respectively.
