Worcester State Athletics Department To Hold Division III Week Celebration

Worcester, MA --- From Monday, April 6 through Sunday, April 12, the Worcester State University Athletics Department will join other institutions around the country by embracing its identity during Division III Week.

Division III Week is an opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the positive impact of student-athletes on campus and the surrounding community. Approximately one out of every 10 undergraduates at Worcester State is a student-athlete, all competing for the sports they love while balancing busy academic schedules, jobs and other commitments throughout the year.

Many excel in the classroom, demonstrate outstanding leadership and are engaged in community service activities. Worcester State will join nearly 450 schools and conferences in celebrating these great accomplishments.

Division III Week kicks off at 6 PM with a senior student-athlete Etiquette Dinner hosted by Career Services Director Jillian Anderson and Director of Dining Services Rich Perna in the Blue Lounge of the Student Center.

On Thursday, April 9, members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold a “Late Night Lancer” event in the Sheehan Hall Multiple Purpose Room from 10 PM-12 AM. The program will be a Food Olympics, which will pit 15 teams of five people maximum in a series of eating competitions that include hot dog eating and bobbing for apples.

The Late Night Lancer programming is geared towards providing resident and commuter students on campus with an alternative to drinking alcohol on Thursdays during the week while school is in session.

Saturday, April 11 will bring a number of students and parents to campus for Accepted Students Day. During the baseball and softball double-headers starting at noon, the WSU athletics department will be holding an ice cream social by the entrance to Rockwood Park.

The week will come to a fitting close when SAAC will host the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester in a community service field day. Nearly 50 boys and girls will have the opportunity to play soccer, engage in relay races and other miscellaneous games from 9 AM-3 PM. The drinks for lunch are sponsored by Polar while the food will be donated by the 99 Restaurant & Pub.

Five feature stories during the week will also highlight different student-athletes who make their own mark on the WSU athletics department.
