DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has named Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) of Worcester State University the Corvias ECAC Division III New England Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 24.

Weeks took the top spot in both the discus (46.67m) and the shot put (14.98m) while marking a second place finish in the hammer (49.15m) for a combined 28 points at the Springfield College Classic on Saturday (Apr. 23). He qualified for all Division New England, Division III New England, and ECACs.

“Sam Weeks has stepped it up this year producing personal records in each of his three throwing events this spring,” commented head coach Al Halper. “As we prepare for the MASCAC conference meet this weekend, Sammy leads a strong contingent of Lancer throwers with the chance to win all three of his events, the shot put, the discus, and the hammer.

“Not only does he lead by example, he leads the team through his enthusiasm for the sport and his ability to motivate others, particularly the others on the throwing squad,” added Halper. “He is well deserving of this week’s accolade.”
