Lancers Women’s Basketball to Host Eighth Annual “Math Madness” Game

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women’s basketball team is set to host their eighth annual “Math Madness” event for Monday (Jan. 11) at the Harrington Auditorium on the campus of WPI.

The women’s basketball team will be matching up against the Owls of Keene State College in a non-conference game at 12 p.m. noon. The event will allow local children in the Worcester area an opportunity to enhance their math skills through basketball.

Students from the May Street School and Chandler Magnet School will be in attendance at this fun-filled event designed to offer students the opportunity to answer questions from grade appropriate math packets.

The questions will engage the students in solving problems related to player’s statistics, scores, averages, court dimensions, and other math equations.

Immediately following the conclusion of the contest, both women’s basketball teams will have an autograph session where the students can meet the Lancers of Worcester State, and the Owls of Keene State.

Worcester State (4-8) just came off a hard-fought 48-46 victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponents, MCLA, for their first conference win of the season. The team is currently led by freshman center, Britt Herring (W. Brookfield, Mass.) who is averaging 12.3 points per game, and 8.0 rebounds per game. Both Kaitlyn Berkel (Waterford, Conn.) and sophomore guard, Brianna Hackett (Hollis, N.H.) both are averaging about nine points per game, as Berkel secures the boards with 9.4 rebounds per game. They have a game this Saturday (Jan. 9) at Salem State before returning to their home away from home (WPI) for the Math Madness event on Monday (Jan. 11).
