Worcester State’s Bilal Shakir Named MASCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week (Nov. 16-22)

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s junior guard, Bilal Shakir (Worcester, Mass.), was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 16-22.

“Bilal had a great week for us,” stated head coach Dave Lindberg. “He has been a great addition to the team thus far. His ability to create his own shots and get shots for others has really helped us on the offensive end.”

In a 2-1 week for the Lancers, Shakir averaged 22 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while maintaining a 46.8 shooting percentage.

Shakir had a game-high 32 points with eight rebounds and three assists in the 95-89 victory over Wheaton College earlier in the week.

“During that stretch in the Wheaton game he really carried us and got us over the top,” stated Lindberg.

At the Ken Wright ‘52 Invitational this past weekend, Shakir scored a team-high 19 points with six rebounds and three assists in the 77-64 win over Suffolk University. In the championship game against the host team, Amherst College, Shakir scored 14 points and registered nine rebounds.

He currently leads the conference in points per game with 18, and is third in the conference for total points with 72.

“With so many new players on the floor his play is helping us find our identity,” said Lindberg.
