Worcester State SAAC Holds Field Day for Worcester Boys and Girls Club

WORCESTER, Mass. – On Friday (Apr. 22), the Worcester State University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) invited the Worcester State Boys & Girls Club on campus for a spring field day, as the children were bussed over (compliments of the Worcester State University President’s Office) to have some fun in the sun and form relationships with the Worcester State student-athletes.

“The field day for the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester is one of our favorite SAAC events during the year,” commented SAAC Advisory, Kelly Downs.  “The energy and excitement on the turf was awesome to see and the smiles and laughs were endless.

SAAC held events such as relay races, shipwreck, blob tag, capture the flag, soccer, and many more for the kids. The children concluded the day with a pizza party hosted by SAAC.

“I'm so happy we were able to host this event again, as this was our second year doing this,” commented field hockey/lacrosse player and SAAC President, Meghan Pini.  “It's such a fun day that not only the kids love but us athletes love too. I would like to thank the president’s office, athletics, and everyone involved in making this day happen.”

“Our Athletic Department and student-athletes are proud to continue our ongoing relationship with the Worcester Boys and Girls Club,” said Worcester State Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd.  “To be able to give the boys and girls the opportunity to visit our campus and interact with our student-athletes is an invaluable experience for both groups, contributing to their character development.”

“We are already in discussion to make this a tradition and continue to make this a yearly event,” added Downs.
