WORCESTER, Mass. –Another week of college basketball has concluded so now it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Honor Roll, including our players and rookies of the week.

 

Men’s Co-Player of the Week: Patrick Bradanese (Sr.) Anna Maria (Billerica, Mass.): Bradanese averaged 29.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Anna Maria. He was one assist shy of a triple-double in Tuesday’s win against Rivier, as he finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. On Saturday, he scored a season-best 32 points to go with five boards in the AMCATS’ win over Saint Joseph’s (Maine). On the week, Bradanese shot 50% overall (18-36), 40.9% from three-point range (9-22) and 87.5% from the free-throw line (14-16).

 

Men’s Co-Player of the Week: Samuel Durodola (So.) Becker (Rosedale, N.Y.): Durodola led the Hawks to a 3-0 record this week. Durodola averaged 23.3 points and 10.7 boards per game. Samuel started his week with his tenth double-double of the season after an 18 point and 13 rebound showing against Wheelock. Durodola then helped the Hawks earn a double overtime victory over Daniel Webster with 26 points and ten rebounds. Durodola capped off his week with 26 points and nine boards in a 91-85 win over Mitchell.

 

Men’s Rookie of the Week: Marcos Echevarria (Fr.) Nichols (Lynn, Mass.): Echevarria averaged a team-leading 24.5 points per game as the Bison ran their win streak to 14 games heading into the conference playoffs this week. After scoring 17 points in a road win at Gordon on Tuesday, he dropped in 32 points on 9-of-14 shooting in a win over Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. He canned 8-of-10 from downtown against the Lions, which is one shy of the program-record of nine. For the week, Echevarria also sank 15 -of-16 from the line (94 percent) and finished the week 10-of-17 from 3-point land (59 percent). His 18.6 ppg scoring average is third in the conference.

 

Women’s Rookie of the Week: Kate Surprenant (Fr.) Worcester State (Pelham, N.H.): Surprenant averaged eight points; two assists and one steal in a 0-2 week for the Lancers. She netted eight points at 44.4 percent in the loss to Framingham State. She then scored eight again in the setback to Westfield, going 50 percent from the field.

 

Honor Roll:

Kareem Davis (Fr.) Becker (Lowell, Mass.): Davis helped lead the Hawks to a perfect 3-0 record this past week in NECC action. Davis averaged 18 points and 3.7 assists per game. He averaged 47.8 percent from beyond the arc for the week, too. Davis began his week with 11 points and six assists in a win over Wheelock before leading all scorers with 31 points in a double-overtime victory against Daniel Webster on Thursday. Davis finished his week with 12 points and three assists in the Hawks season finale victory over Mitchell College.

Bilal Shakir (Jr.) Worcester State (Worcester, Mass.): Shakir averaged 19.5 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. Shakir netted a game-high 24 points in the loss to Framingham State, going 12-for-13 (92.3%) from the free-throw line. Shakir then scored 15 points in the win over Westfield State on Saturday, making four three’s and grabbing six boards and five assists.

Alex Santos (Fr.) Worcester State (Lawrence, Mass.): Santos averaged 12.5 points, four assists and two rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. Santos scored 15 points in the setback to Framingham State, and then netted 10 in the win over Westfield State.

Clyde Niba (Sr.) WPI (Atlanta, Ga.): Niba shot a blistering 61.5% from the floor while averaging 19 points and eight rebounds as the Engineers won both of their contests last week. On Wednesday the senior notched his second double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead WPI past visiting Wheaton 70-55.  Niba wrapped up his week by scoring all 14 of his points in the first half on 6-of-8 shooting from the field in a decisive 88-60 road victory at Clark.

Jamani Spencer (Fr.) WPI (Closter, N.J.): Spencer reached double figures in scoring twice last week as WPI wrapped up the regular season with two victories.  The freshman poured in 12 points in a 70-55 triumph over Wheaton before registering 11 points in a 88-60 road win at Clark.  Spencer also doled out seven assists and totaled five steals in the two contests.

Ama Biney (So.) WPI (Worcester, Mass.): Amassed 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steal during a 1-1 week for the Crimson and Gray.
