WORCESTER, Mass. – 83 Worcester State University student-athletes were named to the Winter 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Academic Team, as announced by MASCAC Commissioner, Angela Baumann, Wednesday afternoon.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the course of the winter 2017 athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the All-Academic team.

“Our student-athletes continue to get it done in the classroom,” commented Worcester State Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd.  “Balancing academics and athletics so well as student-athletes should help these young men and women be prepared to enter the working world.”

A total of 437 student-athletes in the MASCAC were honored. Westfield State University placed the most student-athletes on the winter 2017 MASCAC All-Academic Team with 105 total, while Bridgewater State University is close in second with 100. Worcester State University is third with 83, Fitchburg State University is fourth with 59 and Salem State University is fifth with 23 student-athletes on the team.

“The growing number of student-athletes on the MASCAC Winter All-Academic team is a true testament to the hard work of our student-athletes,” Commissioner Baumann said. “The number of student-athletes recognized has increased again this year which demonstrates their outstanding academic performance. It is my honor to congratulate them on their academic success.”
