Buzzards Bay, MA --- 69 Worcester State student-athletes have been named to the 2011 MASCAC Spring All-Academic Team as announced by Media Relations Director Jim Seavey. Nearly 330 total student-athletes were named by the conference.
Worcester State had the third-most honorees on the prestigious squad. The Lancers have 13 more student-athletes than they did last spring and 18 also notched repeat honors.
10 of the 15 members of this years 2011 MASCAC Tournament Championship Softball team earned all-academic accolades.
To be named to the all-academic squad a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester based grade point average during the fall semester. The conference recently changed its format for announcing its All-Academic Team, as the MASCAC honors student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom on three occasions during the course of the academic year in fall, winter and spring.
"We are proud of the academic success of our student-athletes on both the playing field and in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Sue Chapman.
Westfield State had the most selections with 87 while Bridgewater State edged out Worcester State for second place with 70.
