WSU President Barry Maloney Chosen to Serve On NCAA Committee

Worcester, MA --- Barry M. Maloney, President of Worcester State University, was recently appointed as one of four Division IIII representatives to serve on the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics (CWA).

As a member of the Committee on Women’s Athletics, Maloney will meet twice a year with the committee to study and make policy recommendations concerning opportunities for women in athletics at the institutional, conference and national levels, as well as examine other issues affecting women's intercollegiate athletics.

Maloney will be one of 18 members representing all three divisions that include student-athletes, campus athletics administrators and other college presidents. Regionally, Maloney will be joined by David Wolk, President of Castleton State and MIT Athletic Director Julie Soliero who is one of two representatives from the Division III Management Council.

The CWA will also focus on increasing opportunity, participation and promotion of female student-athletes. This past April, the CWA discussed growing women’s participation in sports like the triathlon, sand volleyball and rugby as well as analyzing nationwide issues and material related to women’s activities throughout the NCAA.

Maloney was chosen by the Board of Trustees as Worcester State's 11th President in 2011.
