Baseball Falls To Rutgers-Camden, 13-2

Frostproof, FL --- Rutgers-Camden senior Adrian Gonzalez (Pennsauken, NJ) went 2-for-3 with five RBIs as he helped pace the Scarlet Raptors to a 13-2 victory over Worcester State in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday evening at the Frostproof Baseball Complex.

The Lancers (3-4) scored first in the top of the second when freshman Brian Bonacquisti (Pittsfield, MA) rapped out an RBI single to score classmate Dan McGuill (E. Longmeadow, MA).

But Rutgers Camden (3-3) came right back and took over the commanding 8-1 margin over the next four innings of play. The Scarlet Raptors broke the contest open when Gonzalez smashed a grand-slam in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 12-run advantage.

Worcester State got a run back in the top of the sixth on a two-out run producing base-knock by junior Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA) who plated first-year Jake Ryan (Whitinsville, MA).

Osburn (1-0) shouldered the setback on the mound for the Blue and Gold. He allowed five earned runs on five hits to go along with five strikeouts and a trio of hit batters.

Senior Derek Cole (Billerica, MA) and junior David Ruggiero (Peabody, MA) were bright spots out of the bullpen. Cole fanned the second batter he saw in a perfect inning while Ruggiero rang up the side on strikes.

The Lancers were outhit 14-6 for the game as Ryan chipped in with a double in the top of the third. WSU pitching recorded 10 punch outs in the nine-inning affair while also walking three.

Worcester State continues their spring swing with a 10:30 twin bill against #3/4 Southern Maine tomorrow at Henley Field.
