Eight Baseball Student-Athletes Capture MASCAC Spring All-Academic Accolades

Westfield, MA --- Three-time honorees senior Joe Carlier (Rockland, MA) and junior Joe Perlak (Chicopee, MA) highlighted eight selections on the MASCAC Spring All-Academic Team as announced by league publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Other selections included junior classmates Jeff Bolio (Oxford, MA), Michael Ivas (Princeton, MA), Jared Kuzio (Franklin, MA), Joe Larson (Warwick, MA) and Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA) while freshman Dan McGuill (E. Longmeadow, MA) also recieved a nod to the leagues spring semester honor roll.

The academic distinction for Perlak is his second of the campaign as he was named to the Capital One Co-SIDA All-Academic Disctrict I team in the beginning of May.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based GPA during their season of competition. Among institutions in the MASCAC, the squad had the fourth most student-athletes recognized out of eight institutions who sponsor baseball.

Under the direction of 19th year head coach Dr. Dirk Baker, the Lancers tied for the MASCAC Regular Season title, captured their fifth conference tournament crown and made the programs sixth appearance in the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

WSU had the third most honorees named to the MASCAC Spring All-Academic team while the sum for the 2013-14 academic year of 234 set a new institutional standard. For the 2013-14 academic year, all student-athletes at Worcester State posted a stellar 3.01 grade point average.
