Doyle Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Senior Kris Doyle (Millbury, MA) has been selected MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his dominant performance in a victory over Mount Saint Vincent this past week.

Doyle hurled complete-game, seven inning one-hitter over the Dolphins with five strikeouts in a 7-0 victory.

In his third career shutout, the lone base-knock that he permitted was a clean single through the right side of the infield in the second inning. He then issued a walk, spun a double play to end the frame and he set down 14 of the last 19 batters that he faced.

With 14.2 frames of work to his credit on the campaign, Doyle is currently tied for sixth in the MASCAC in strikeouts (12) and he is seventh in the league with a 1.84 earned run average.

This past season, Doyle went 6-4 overall – tying for second in the MASCAC in victories – while he put up a 3.19 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 62.0 innings, which was a staff high.

In addition to firing four complete games, Doyle ended the year tossing a complete-game two-hit shutout against Bridgewater State and he scattered seven hits, blanking Salem State just seven days later to help the Blue and Gold clinch a share of the 2014 Regular Season MASCAC title.

Worcester State (4-5) heads to Endicott tomorrow and WPI on Wednesday in a pair of games against regionally-ranked opponents. Both games are slated for 3:30 PM starts.
