WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior shortstop, Mike Powers (Weymouth, Mass.) was recognized on the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for his performance in the 9-5 victory over Nichols College on Sunday (Feb. 28).
Powers went 4-for-5 (.800) against Nichols as he collected a three-run home run for three RBI, a double and two runs in the win. On the field, Powers registered two putouts and five assists for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
"He had a career day," commented head coach Dirk Baker. "This was his first homerun since little league and it was nice to see his dad go and grab the home run ball and be a witness to that."
"More importantly, Mike's defense at short stop was phenomenal," added Baker. "I'd say overall as a team, our defense attributed to our success that day."
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its fifth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the third Team of the Week of the 2016 season.
