Baseball Sweeps Framingham State in MASCAC Doubleheader

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Worcester State University baseball team swept the Framingham State University Rams by scores of 9-5 and 6-3 in a Monday afternoon Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader.

 

With the wins, the Lancers are now 11-13 on the year and 5-3 in the MASCAC, while the Rams are now 13-15 overall and 3-5 in the league.

 

GAME ONE: Worcester State 9, Framingham State 5

The Lancers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of the opener on an RBI double by Adam Barry (Auburn, Mass.) and an RBI single by Mike Ferrara (Easton, Mass.)

 

The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the third inning.  Sophomore Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) reached on an error and junior Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) walked.  A two out infield single from sophomore Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) allowed Williams to score from second.  Senior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) tied the game with a single up the middle.

 

The Lancers capitalized on three Framingham errors in the top of the forth to take a 4-2 lead on a sacrifice fly by Jake Ryan (Northbridge, Mass.).  The Rams retied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two RBI single to left by Brockett.

 

After neither team scored in the final three innings, the Lancers plated five runs in the top of the eighth to secure the victory.  Ryan delivered a two RBI double to right and Barry plated a run on a single to center.

 

Junior Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams going seven and a third innings and allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits with two strikeouts.  Sophomore Kyle Sullivan (Hudson, Mass.) earned the win for the Lancers going eight innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with eight strikeouts.

 

Barry and Ferrara led the Lancers with three hits apiece, while Ryan registered a double and led the team with a game-high three RBI.

 

GAME TWO: Worcester State 6, Framingham State 3

In game two, the Lancers once again got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first on and RBI single by Barry.  Ryan accounted for the other run on the back end of a double steal. 

 

The Rams got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI ground out by Wardwell.

 

Barry extended the Lancers lead to 3-1 with an RBI double in the top of the third.

 

The Rams pulled within one (4-3) in the bottom of the fifth on a two RBI single by Wardwell, but the Lancers tacked on two more in the seventh to reach the final score.

 

Wardwell went 1-for-3 for the Rams in game two with three RBI, while Brockett scored a pair of runs.  Ryan led the Lancers, going 4-for-4 with four runs, while Barry finished the game with three hits and two RBI for the Lancers.

 

Sophomore Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams going seven innings and allowing six runs, three earned, on 15 hits with six strikeouts.  Luke Brennan (Worcester, Mass.) earned the win for the Lancers going seven innings and allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits with seven strikeouts.

 

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Roger Williams at 3:30 p.m., while the Lancers travel to Salve Regina on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
