Baseball Blanks Becker 13-0

LEICESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University baseball team won its sixth straight game on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Becker College 13-0 at Rochdale Park.

With the win Worcester State salvages a split of the season series, improving to 17-13 overall.

Lancer freshman pitcher Joey Zawisza (Newington, Conn.) flirted with perfection in a sensational starting effort. The rookie sat down the first 18 batters he faced, before losing his perfect game in a no-out base hit in the top of the seventh inning. Zawisza would recover quickly however, as the next batter with ground into a double play, and Zawisza's outing would come to a close after seven innings facing the minimum 21 Hawks.

At the dish, Worcester state got all the offense it would need and more in the top of the first inning, putting up five runs. Sophomore Jake Breton (Wilbraham, Mass.) and seniors Michael Ferrara (Easton, Mass.), Seth Leslie (Phillipston, Mass.), and Sam Allen (Springfield, Mass.) all delivered RBIs in the frame.

With the contest comfortably in hand in the top of the ninth, Worcester State sophomore Pat Galvin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) delivered a grand slam over the right field fence, sending the score to its final of 13–0.

Worcester State roped 14 hits in the victory, including six doubles. Becker recorded just the one hit in the loss.

The Lancers will be right back in action tomorrow facing Nichols College in non-conference action at Lyons Diamond. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
