Westfield, MA --- Worcester State football seniors Kyle Morris (Walpole, MA) and Adam Straughn (Rockland, MA) underscored 15 honorees on the MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team as announced by conference publicist Emily Deikelmann.

Junior selections included Kevin Coonan (Worcester, MA/Burncoat), Mike Dance (Rocky Hill, CT), Teddy Ferreira (Mansfield, MA), Justin Pennellatore (Mansfield, MA) and Zack Skerry (Milford, MA).

The sophomores who will receive certificates are Zachary Besaw (Shrewsbury, MA), Ryan Filliger (Haverhill, MA), Nick Maxner (Jefferson, MA), Zachary Pappas (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) and the first-year student-athletes named to the prestigious academic squad are Tyler Barrie (Oxford, MA), Gabe Caetano (Milford, MA), Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) and Arron Witkus (Chelmsford, MA).

For Straughn this marks the third time that he has been selected while Coonan, Dance, Ferreira, Maxner, Morris and Pennelatore have earned the nod twice during their respective careers.

As a team the Lancers' final tally was ranked among the top five teams in the conference to receive all-academic laurels in the nine-team MASCAC.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based GPA during their season of competition.

Under the guidance of 32nd year head coach Brien Cullen, the Blue and Gold ended the season at 3-7 with wins over Anna Maria, WPI and Mass Maritime. WSU was ranked among the top 15 passing teams in the NCAA Division III breaking school records in average (313.0 YPG) and yardage (3,130).

Among institutions in the MASCAC, Worcester State had 78 overall selections on the league fall academic honor roll for the third highest total in the conference. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
