DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Worcester State University football team was upended 46-8 by UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Cressy Field.
With the loss, the Lancers continue to seek their first win of the season, falling to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the MASCAC.
The Lancers recorded nearly 300 yards of offense on the day, but struggled to find the end zone on the day. Quarterback Aaron-Moses Williams (Springfield, Mass.) finished the day with 13 completions for 228 yards.
Wide receiver Cam Kergo (Mashpee, Mass.) had a strong afternoon with five catches for 102 yards. Senior Jordan Choquette (Warren, Mass.) also had five catches, netting 97 yards.
Worcester State got on the board with a pair of Kyle Wall (Sterling, Mass.) field goals in the first quarter, but the Corsairs found the end zone three times in the quarter to go ahead 20-6 after one. UMass Dartmouth punched in another touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, and took a 26-6 lead into the locker room.
UMass Dartmouth's offense didn't slow after the break, as three more touchdowns gave the hosts a 46-6 lead late in the contest. The point after try on the final Corsair touchdown was blocked and returned by Worcester State's Michael Elsey (Killingly, Conn.) for a two-point defensive PAT, giving the game its final score of 46-8.
Worcester State will be back on the field on Friday night for a MASCAC contest against Fitchburg State University. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
