Bridgewater State Posts 5-1 Victory Over Field Hockey

Bridgewater, MA --- Bridgewater State senior Carissa Vizakis (Bellingham, MA) a hat-trick as the Bridgewater State downed Worcester State, 5-1, in Little East Conference field hockey action this evening at Swenson Field.

With the win, the Bears improve to 9-2 on the season and 4-1 in the LEC.  The Lancers slip to 6-4 overall with the loss and 1-4 in conference play.

Vizakis opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest as she knocked home the rebound of her own shot.

Senior Demi Miskiv (Centerville, MA) then gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage just five minutes later as she redirected a cross from Vizakis for her eight goal of the season. Senior Georgina Bagordo (Sparta, NJ) capped off the first half scoring with an unassisted tally in the 32 minute for her first of the campaign.

Vizakis tipped in long shot from junior Jaclyn Holahan (South Yarmouth, MA) just over nine minutes into the second half for the 4-0 edge and completed the hat trick with under two minutes remaining in the contest as she combined with Miskiv once again.  Miskiv slipped a pass in front of the net and Vizakis buried a shot inside the left post for her team-best 11th goal of the season.

Junior Kelli McPherson (Mansfield, MA) potted the Lancers' lone goal of the evening in the 60th minute off a feed from sophomore Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, MA). McPherson now ties for the team lead in goals (7) and points (16).

Bridgewater held a 9-3 shot advantage for the game as well as a 15-6 edge in penalty corners.

WSU senior goaltender Allison Romano (East Bridgewater, MA) turned aside three shots between the pipes for the Lancers. Senior Kacie Sturgeon (Dartmouth, MA) was only called upon to make one save for the Bears.

The Little East slate resumes for both team on Tuesday at 7 PM.  The Bears entertain Framingham State while the Lancers travel to Western Connecticut.
