Field Hockey Bounced From Little East Tournament By Keene State

Keene, NH --- Keene State senior Aimee Donaruma (Hampden, MA) scored two goals for the top-seeded Owls to help shutout #8 Worcester State, 4-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Little East Conference Field Hockey Tournament.

The Owls (18-2) move on to the semifinals as they host fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth on Thursday at 6 PM.

The Lancers (11-8) await news of a possible ECAC Division III New England tournament berth on selection Monday.

WSU earned their first LEC Tournament berth since 2011 after breaking a three-way tie with a 2-0 win over Eastern Connecticut on the final week of the regular season.

Donaruma got the scoring started for the hosts when she scored both of her markers 4 1/2 minutes apart for the 2-0 edge with 9:04 left in the opening frame. Donaruma potted her fourth and fifth markers of the season.

Worcester State held the Owls offense in check for most of the beginning of the second frame, but the hosts scored twice in the final 15 minutes for the final score.

First-year Kayla Renaud (Somers, CT) hit home her 13th tally of the season at the 61:21 mark before junior Marisa Lemoine (Berlin, NH) added the final blow just over four minutes later on a penalty corner.

The Owls, who finished the year unbeaten at 11-0 against conference opponents as the LEC Regular Season Champions, did not allow the Lancers to place a shot on goal as they led 16-0 with shots on net. KSC also held the 12-5 margin in penalty corners.

The lone attempt the Blue and Gold had in the offensive zone was midway through the period after the hosts went up 1-0. WSU tried to equalize the score off a corner, but sophomore Victoria Watkins' (Douglas, MA) bid was denied by the Keene State back line.

Senior netminder Allison Romano (E. Bridgewater, MA) had a busy night in the cage for Worcester State. Romano finished with 12 saves. Sophomore Megan Dwyer (Rutland, MA) was not called upon to make a save in her 70 minutes between the pipes for Keene State.
