Six From Field Hockey Team Named To NFCHA All-Academic Squad

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State freshman Alli Baker (Somerset, MA) and senior Amanda Turnbull (Leicester, MA) underscore five field hockey student-athletes who have been selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Academic Squad.

Other selections include sophomore teammates Krissy Kenney (Rehoboth, MA), Erika Lepkowski (Baldwinville, MA) and Megan Ripke (Agawam, MA) along with freshman Victoria Watkins (Douglas, MA).

To be chosen to the NFHCA All-Academic Squad, one must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.

All five were also named to the MASCAC All-Academic Team at the beginning of February for their tremendous efforts on the field and in the classroom during their competitive season of play.

Baker was one of 131 in Division III and among 40 student-athletes in New England to be listed as a Scholar of Distinction for posting a 3.90 GPA or above during the first semester.

Since the 2008-09 season, the Lancers have had five or more student-athletes receive the honorable distinction of being recognized by the national collegiate field hockey office. WSU also led all NCAA divisions with a stellar 3.57 fall GPA during the 2010-11 campaign.

Under the direction of second year head coach Chris Pothier, the Blue and Gold posted a 12-9 mark with an upset win in overtime over Smith in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

Worcester State also set team records for goals (64), assists (46) and points (174).
