Bitters, Turnbull Underscore Seven Field Hockey MASCAC All-Academic Selections

Westfield, MA --- Worcester State field hockey seniors Katherine Bitters (Greenfield, MA) and Amanda Turnbull (Rochdale, MA) highlight seven names on the MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team as announced by conference publicist Emily Deikelmann.

In addition to Bitters and Turnbull, who have both received the honor three times in their career, they were joined by sophomore teammates Krissy Kenney (Rehoboth, MA), Erika Lepkowski (Baldwinville, MA), Megan Ripke (Agawam, MA), Victoria Watkins (Douglas, MA) and freshman Alli Baker (Somerset, MA).

Kenny and Ripke earned their second-consecutive nod to the academic squad for their outstanding achievements in the classroom while they were also recognized on the Little East All-Academic Team this past fall. Turnbull also received prestigious LEC All-Academic team honors.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based GPA during their season of competition.

Under the tutelage of second-year head coach Chris Potheir, the Blue and Gold went 12-9 overall with appearances in the Little East Tournament quarterfinals and in the ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey Tournament semifinals.

WSU posted their first-ever ECAC victory in six attempts with a thrilling 2-1 overtime triumph over Smith. The squad also shattered school marks for goals (64), assists (46) and points (174).

Among institutions in the MASCAC, Worcester State had 78 overall selections on the league fall academic honor roll for the third highest total in the conference. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
