Field Hockey Uses Second Half Surge To Defeat Framingham State, 4-1

Framingham, MA --- Junior teammates Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) and Taylor Ledwith (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) along with freshman Jolane Thibault (Douglas, MA) all had one goal and an assist each as they helped propel Worcester State to a 4-1 victory over Framingham State in Little East field hockey action this afternoon.

Hosting Framingham State (2-4, 0-2 LEC) took the early 1-0 into the break after senior Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, MA) fired a shot into the circle that junior Cady Kelly (Canton, MA) deflected into the back of the cage.

Worcester State (4-3, 1-1 LEC) scored the equalizer five minutes into the second stanza when O'Rourke found sophomore Meghan Pini (Natick, MA) in the circle for her first of the campaign.

Ledwith helped the Lancers stake the 2-1 advantage at the 49:22 mark on a nifty pass by Thibault for the game-wining marker. Ledwith then returned the favor nearly three minutes later on Thibaut's first collegiate tally to extend their margin to two goals.

McPherson fed one into the circle for O'Rourke who finished her team-best third of the campaign with time winding down in the contest for the final score.

The Blue and Gold enjoyed a 19-4 edge in shots and a 4-3 lead in penalty corners.

Freshman Kathryn Salemme (Boxboro, MA) was called upon to make one save for Worcester State while junior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, MA) turned aside eight for the Rams.

Both squads take on non-conference opponents at 7 PM in the next week. The Lancers host local rival Becker on Tuesday as Framingham State heads to Roger Williams on Thursday.
