Kenney, O'Rourke Help Field Hockey Earn Shutout Win Over Becker

Worcester, MA --- Junior teammates Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) and Krissy Kenney (Rehoboth, MA) combined for six goals to help lift Worcester State to an 8-0 triumph over Becker in non-conference field hockey action this evening at Coughlin Field.

O'Rourke finished with her first career hat-trick and two helpers while Kenney registered two markers and one assist.

Other goal scorers for the Lancers (5-2) included senior Katelyn Abber (Dedham, MA), junior Erika Lepkowski (Baldwinville, MA) and senior Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) who all netted tallies in the second half.

O'Rourke and Kenney tag teamed for the first four goals of the contest. Freshman Hayley Sutherland (Tewksbury, MA) dished one to O'Rourke just two minutes into the game before scoring again a little more than 12 minutes later with some help from junior Taylor Ledwith (Springfield, MA/Cathedral).

Kenney then potted back-to-back tallies six minutes apart with the final goal coming from around the horn on a penalty corner as time expired in the period.

To start off the second stanza, O'Rourke slipped one past the goalie early in the frame before Abber recorded her second goal of the season three minutes later.

Lepkowski and Kilday capped off the contests scoring to help give the Blue and Gold a three-game winning streak.

The Hawks (1-6) best chance to score came midway through the opening period when Jocelyn Cornish (Wilmington, MA) had a bid at the top of the circle, but her bid went to the left. Becker also had a pair of penalty corners in the second stanza.

Junior Katherine Landanno (Winchendon, MA) and senior Karena Prescott (New Bedford, MA) ended the contest with defensive stops as freshman Kelsey Dumont (Groton, MA) added two.

Third-year Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, NY) turned aside 15 shots in the setback while freshman Kathryn Salemme (Boxboro, MA) was not called upon to make a save.

Worcester State continues Little East Conference play on Saturday against Salem State at home in a 2 PM matchup. Becker travels to Fitchburg State on Thursday at 4:30.
