BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Samantha Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore forward Tori O'Dea (South Dennis, Mass.) each scored to lead the Bridgewater State University field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout over visiting Worcester State University in Little East Conference action on Wednesday night at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 7-4 on the season and 4-2 in the Little East, while the Lancers slip to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Hayes opened the scoring at the end of the first half with no time showing on the clock as she converted off a penalty corner. Senior forward Brittney Field (Hubbardston, Mass.) was able to gain control of the ball off a scramble in front of the net and slid a pass over to Hayes who deposited a shot into the open right side. The goal marked her second of the season.

O'Dea also capitalized on a corner opportunity early in the second half as she potted her fifth goal of the campaign. Senior forward Kelsey Kiely (Mansfield, Mass.) set up the scoring strike with a pass from the left side. O'Dea ripped a shot from seven yards out that deflected off the keeper's right pad and inside the left post.

Bridgewater State held a 22-6 shot advantage for the game as well as a 7-6 edge in penalty corners.

BSU junior netminder Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) turned aside all three shots she faced en route to her sixth win and third shutout of the season. Freshman Alison Bieksha (Hubbardston, Mass.) made 12 saves in the setback for the Lancers.

The conference slate continues for both teams on Saturday. The Bears host Keene State College at 4:00 PM, while the Lancers entertain Plymouth State University at 11:00 AM.
