Hopkins Tabbed Little East Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) defensive player of the week, as announced by the league Monday (Oct. 9) afternoon.

Hopkins recorded a key defensive save in the opening minutes of the Lancers' 2-1 Little East Conference victory over Plymouth State. Her first defensive stop of the season helped first-place Worcester State remain undefeated in LEC play (7-0).

"We are so excited to see Rachel get recognized for her defensive prowess," commented head coach Alexa Carlson.  "She is a force in the midfield for us and does an amazing job distributing the ball to her teammates and finding those passing lanes."

"Rachel has very strong stick skills and block tackles," mentioned Carlson. "She is always coming away with the ball from opponents and is tenacious as well as poised."

The field hockey team returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 10) when they travel to Bridgewater State for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
