Field Hockey Shuts Down Eastern Connecticut

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University field hockey took a 4-1 win over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon in Little East Conference Action at Coughlin Field.

With the win Worcester State advances to an overall record of 7-5 (5-2 in the LEC) as Eastern Connecticut falls to 4-6 overall (4-4 LEC).

Alexa Bobbin (Richmond, R.I.) helped Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) net the first goal for Worcester State off a penalty corner just after the 21 minute mark in the first half.

Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.) grabbed her 12th goal of the season as the senior continued scoring for the Lancers' offense late in the first half. This goal marked Parent's 44th career goal making her Worcester State's all-time leading scorer.

The second half saw action as Sarah Duff (Warren, Mass.) and Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.) netted a goal each to help send the Lancers to the conference victory. Stephanie Hogan (Northford, Conn.) off a penalty stroke netted the only goal for the Warriors in Saturday's game.

Worcester State's goalie Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass) held strong with a strong defense in front her netting  four saves. Eastern Connecticut's goalie Keira Integlia (Brandford, Conn.) had eight saves in the conference loss. Duff and the Warriors' Katelyn Miller (Wallingford, Conn.) each had defensive saves for their respective teams in this afternoon's matchup.

Next up, Worcester State will head to Western Connecticut University on Wednesday at 7pm to continue conference action. Eastern Connecticut is off until next Saturday when they face Fitchburg State in conference play.
