Field Hockey Downs Plymouth on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University field hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 Senior Day win over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference action at Coughlin Field.

With the win, the Lancers end the regular season with a 13-6 overall record, and 9-3 in the Little East. Plymouth State finishes their regular season at 5-11 overall and 5-7 in the LEC.

Before the game, the three Lancer seniors, Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.), Rielley Richards (Athol, Mass.), and Jessica Wilding (Somerset, Mass.), were honored at their final home regular season game.

Junior Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) opened the scoring on the day just the game's third minute. Antonelli took a feed at the left post from junior Katelyn Santos (Acushnet, Mass.) and deposited her 15th goal of the season.

Plymouth State would come up with an answer in the 16th minute however, as freshman Maddie Ruffing (Durham, N.C.) tallied her first collegiate goal.

Antonelli put the Lancers back into the lead on a penalty stroke with 5:42 remaining in the opening half for her second goal of the game and putting the hosts in front going into the break.

Parent added a tally of her own midway through the second half to put the Lancers ahead by a score of 3-1, off an assist from Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.).

Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) added one more for the Lancers for good measure with under four minutes to play to make the final score 4-1.

Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) got the win in goal for the Lancers, recording four saves. Plymouth State's Jess Distler (Brookfield, N.H.) made six stops in the losing effort.

Both teams await later Little East contests that will determine seeding and opponents in the conference tournament.
