Full List of 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Conference Nominees
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Recent Worcester State University graduate Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.), a former member of the Lancer field hockey team, has been announced as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year.
"The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. Student-athletes are nominated only once in their career by their school," says the NCAA on its website.
The honor is one of many that the former Worcester State standout has pulled in already this summer. In June, Parent was named a Google Cloud Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America for the second consecutive year. Previously, Parent was named Academic All-District by CoSIDA, which automatically qualified her for Academic All-America contention. She was also named the MASCAC's Scholar Athlete of the Year in June.
Parent became the Lancers' all-time leader in goals, assists, and points during her senior season that saw her score 18 goals and 13 assists for 49 points. She was a one-time Little East Offensive Player of the Week award recipient, and was named a Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Weekly Honorable Mention once.
At season's end, Parent was named to the First Team All-Little East Conference for her efforts, and was selected to play in the NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star Game on November 17. She was also named First Team All-Region by the NFHCA.
Parent graduated from Worcester State in May with a perfect cumulative grade point average of 4.0. She was awarded the Senior Female Margaret "Peg" Nugent Award prior to graduating, given to the top Worcester State senior student-athlete for outstanding academic and athletic achievement, and previously she was the recipient of the Biotechnology Academic Major Award, owning the highest GPA of any graduating biotechnology major.
