Field Hockey Doubles Up Salem State

WORCESTER, Mass.- Worcester State University field hockey notches another win after defeating Salem State 4-2 in Little East Conference action Saturday afternoon at John F. Coughlin Memorial Field.

With the win, the Lancers are 6-1 in the season and 2-0 in LEC play. Salem State falls to 4-3 for their season and drops 0-2 in conference play.

Salem State was quick to put their two tallies on the board surprising the Lancer defense. Mikayla Mason (Beverly, Mass.) quickly put one past the defense. Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) quickly scored just under a minute after her teammate to put the Vikings up 2-0. Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) put the Lancers on the board in the 2nd period and was able to send her team into the halfway mark only down one goal.

Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.) tied up the score with an assist from Katelyn Santos (Acushnet, Mass.). Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) found the back of the net on a penalty shot to put the Lancers ahead. Antonelli sealed the win when she scored off another assist from Santos.

Kelli McCarty (Foxborough, Mass.) recorded 12 saves on 16 shots on goal in the loss. Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) grabbed one save on three shots on goal in 60 minutes of play.

Next up the Lancers face Connecticut College on Monday at 4 PM, which was rescheduled from earlier this week.
