Field Hockey Dropped by Keene State in Overtime

KEENE, N.H. - The Worcester State University field hockey team suffered its first Little East Conference blemish of the season on Wednesday evening, falling to Keene State College 3-2 in overtime at the Owl Athletic Complex.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 13-4 overall on the season, and 9-1 in the Little East. The Owls jump to 11-6 and 9-2 in the conference.

The Lancers erased a pair of fourth quarter deficits in order to force overtime. Keene State scored late in the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead, but just 1:11 into the fourth quarter, senior Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) scored her 18th goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1.

Exactly a minute later, Keene State would take the lead right back, as Hailey Beaupre put her team ahead 2-1. With just under four minutes to play, junior Sarah Duff (Warren, Mass.) chose a huge time for her first goal of the season, forcing overtime with a goal at the 56:01 mark.

Keene State controlled the play in the extra session, outshooting the Lancers 3-0. The Owls sealed the contest just over six and a half minutes into the frame when Kayla Klein scored on a penalty stroke, ending Worcester State's perfect conference season.

Worcester State goalkeeper Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded eight saves in the losing effort.

Next up for the Lancers, they'll take on Plymouth State at noon on Saturday at the New Hampton School.
