PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Sarah Bjorn (Holden, Mass.), a senior on the Worcester State University field hockey team, has been named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Little East Conference. Bjorn is the first Lancer across all sports to receive a weekly award in the 2019-20 season.
Bjorn anchored the Worcester State defense over the weekend, lifting the Lancers to a perfect 2-0 start. Bjorn and the Lancer defense recorded two shutouts in wins over Anna Maria and Clark, allowing no shots to the AMCats and only two on target against Clark.
Bjorn and Worcester State will look to remain perfect on Thursday night, as the Lancers play in their home opener against Wellesley College. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
