Jobst, Brooks Earn Repeat MASCAC, WACBA Men's Basketball Weekly Laurels

Westfield, MA --- Senior Dane Jobst (Athol, MA) and freshman Paul Brooks (Arlington, MA) have both received the nod as this week's MASCAC and WACBA Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively, for their contributions in a pair of victories for Worcester State in the last week.

Jobst averaged 16.0 points and 17.5 rebounds and shot 44 percent from the floor (12-27) and (4-9) from beyond the arc for the Lancers, who ran their winning streak to five games in wins over MLCA and Salem State.

Against the Trailblazers, Jobst tallied 22 points, 10 boards and three assists before he finished things off with 10 points and a career-best 25 rebounds in a 53-50 triumph over the first-place Vikings.

25 caroms for Jobst equaled the second highest single-game mark, which was just two off junior Valin Williams (Brooklyn, NY/John Lindsay) grabbed against University of New England on November 11.

As of Monday afternoon, Jobst moved into second overall in the NCAA Division III in rebounding (13.5 RPG) and third in total boards (270) as he is just 25 off the sum that Williams has corralled as the national leader.

Jobst is also 25th in New England in scoring (16.9 PPG) and ranked in the top ten in the MACAC in field goal percentage (.440), free throw percentage (.667) and three-point field goal percentage (.357 – 20-for-56).

This week marked the fifth week that Jobst has garnered MASCAC weekly accolades as he shares the honor with Grant Cooper (Northampton, MA) of Westfield State and the fourth time he has been recognized by the Worcester Area County Basketball Association along with senior Tyler Robertson (Irving, NY) of Becker.

Brooks, who was recognized as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week for the third time on the campaign, continues to impress against conference competition as he averaged 12 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks for the Lancers. He netted a game and season best 18 points, 10 caroms and four blocks in their win against Salem State while shooting .666 percent from the floor on the week (11-16).

On the season, Brooks is averaging 6.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. Among MACAC first-year student-athletes, is the leader in rebounding, blocks and fifth in scoring while his average blocks are 85th in the nation.

Brooks is one of 11 freshman in Division III ranked in the top 100 in blocked shots and sixth overall on the national leaderboard. He shared WACBA honors with freshman Anthony Thompson (Glen Dale, MD) of Holy Cross.

WSU will play two key MASCAC games in the next week starting with Bridgewater State tomorrow at 7:30 PM and Westfield State on Saturday at Clark in a 3 o'clock tip-off.
