Westfield, MA --- Senior Dane Jobst (Athol, MA) has been named this year's recipient of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a vote by the leagues eight athletic directors last week.

The MASCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is awarded annually since 1980 to a student-athlete who has excelled academically and athletically while maintaining at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average through their last year of athletic eligibility.

"I wanted to take a moment to thank those involved for awarding me with the MASCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award." said Jobst. "When I received the notification, I was completely surprised as it is such an honor.

"I would like to credit my parents for the remarkable upbringing, the professors I've had throughout my undergraduate career along with the guidance from past coaches, Coach (Dave) Lindberg, Coach (Dan) Koen and the rest of the Athletics Department; I recognize them for all of their assistance."

The prestigious accolade for Jobst caps off a memorable senior year for the standout men's basketball forward.

Earlier this month, Jobst was honored by the Worcester State Athletics Department with the "Robert Devlin" Senior Athlete Award for his efforts on the hardwood and as a recipient of the Senior Male Margaret "Peg" Nugent Award, which recognizes the outstanding combination of athletics and academics.

On the court, Jobst was the consensus MASCAC Player of the Year for helping lead the men's basketball team to their 16th in the conference tournament semifinal appearance as the squad tied for second in the final regular season league standings.

In 26 games, Jobst posted averages of 16.5 points per game and 13.4 rebounds while he connected for a .458 percentage from the field to go along with 25 made three pointers. His average caroms and total boards (348) were ranked third in the NCAA Division III and he was one of four nationally to have put up 19 or more double doubles.

Jobst also received recognition on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region teams while he was also distinguished with ECAC New England All-Star laurels.

In the classroom, Jobst sports a 3.91 grade point average through the end of the fall 2013 semester. He walked across the stage two weeks ago with his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice while also minoring in Philosophy and Law.

Jobst was lauded by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA) as a Capitol One First-team Academic All-American this past February and he will be a two-time recipient on the NABC Honors Court, which recognizes juniors and seniors who maintain over a cumulative 3.20 GPA during the academic year.

As an active member in the local campus community, Jobst serves as the men's basketball representative in the student-athlete mentor program.  He has also pitched in as a volunteer at the Boys Club in each of the last two years.

His post-graduation plans include attending Roger Williams to attain a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Government Management. Using the experience he received interning in the Worcester County District Attorney's Office during this past fall, Jobst hopes to pursue a future occupation working for the federal government.

Jobst is the fifth Worcester State student-athlete to receive the MASCAC Scholar-Athlete award with the last recipients being Heidi Roy and Eric Swedberg during the 2001-02 academic year. Other honorees have included Tim Leonard (2000-01), Julie (Pramas) Kazarian (1997-98) and Elke Aun (1996-97).

The female recipient of this year's MASCAC Scholar-Athlete award is standout softball pitcher Amber White (Middleboro, MA) of Bridgewater State.
